Easing a Burden

Working alongside the City of Atlanta, Invest Atlanta relaunched the Atlanta Heritage Owner-Occupied Rehab Program, which provides forgivable loans up to $30,000 to homeowners to cover needed repairs and safety hazards.

Created to help legacy residents remain in their homes amid rising prices, the program gives priority to senior households, military veterans, disabled head of households and those who have been in their homes for more than 15 years. Eligible repairs include everything from minor plumbing and electrical work to ADA improvements, siding, painting and windows.

This year, Invest Atlanta offered an online application to meet people where they are and make the process as easy and streamlined as possible. More than 700 applications were filed electronically, in addition to more than 400 paper applications.

This program eases a tremendous burden for so many. It’s not just about a new HVAC unit or a fresh coat of paint; it’s that residents can remain in the places they call home. Their gratitude is immeasurable.

Alleviating Homelessness

Working with the City of Atlanta and the Atlanta Continuum of Care (CoC), Invest Atlanta is investing in creative solutions to address chronic homelessness. This includes the construction of quickly built, low-cost micro units that serve as temporary, semi-permanent or permanent shelter and housing. Located throughout the city, these communities will offer wraparound support services, such as employment, healthcare and mainstream benefits. The first site, located at 184 Forsyth St., opened December 2023.

Invest Atlanta housing investments are helping to achieve the City of Atlanta’s affordable housing goal of building or preserving 20,000 units of affordable housing across the city by 2030.

Ensuring Affordability

A $100 million Housing Opportunity Bond Program, combined with a $100 million commitment to The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta from the Robert W. Woodruff Foundation and Joseph B. Whitehead Foundation, is expediting the development of affordable housing on publicly owned land; preserving affordability where it already exists; providing gap funding to approved, shovel-ready projects; and supporting public land infrastructure work prior to redevelopment.
